Canady for Court
Better is on the Horizon!
Caring. Committed. Competent.
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my website!

Rae Canady
Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge, Department 1
About Me

I was born and raised in the midwest, the youngest of four girls. My parents met and fell in love in the 1960's. An interracial couple, they married the same year the US Supreme Court decided Loving v. Virginia. My parents grounded me and my sisters in community, emphasized the importance of helping others, and instilled in us a strong desire to seek justice.

Through hard work and family support, I earned dual degrees in Psychology and Sociology, and a master's degree in social work, from the University of Michigan. Shortly after I began my social work career, I started my legal studies. After five years of working full-time and attending classes part-time on nights and weekends, I graduated from Marquette University Law School with a Juris Doctor.

In my 26 year career, I have served in a variety of helping roles, including educator, case manager, therapist, child custody evaluator, nonprofit grant reviewer, mediator, court administrator, and criminal defense attorney. I'm currently a civil litigator at Legal Aid Center, representing kids in court.

Why I'm Running
As a former Las Vegas Municipal Court administrator, I know firsthand that we can do better. Everyone is tired of judges who don't listen, act like bullies, and make decisions based on their personal or political views. When you appear in court, you have the right to be heard, to be treated with respect, and to have your dispute resolved fairly.

I'm running for Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge to create a court for our community that is efficient, innovative, and transparent.

Caring. I fell in love with Las Vegas the moment I first visited in the mid-90's, and I relocated here in 2014. Las Vegas is my forever home, and I care about making it a safe and prosperous city. I give back to our community by mentoring other attorneys, delivering meals to home-bound elders, visiting sick veterans in the hospital, participating in neighborhood cleanups, teaching our youth their American rights, and volunteering with the Foster Care Chamber of Commerce.

Committed. I'm committed to working for you and with you. Together, we will make Las Vegas Municipal Court great!
Competent. I'm an experienced trial attorney who has what it takes to stand up to the establishment and fight the status quo. It's time to restore trust in our courts so that you can have confidence that judges are following the law.
As a Judge, I will:
-
Prioritize public safety inside the courthouse and in our community. I will replace outdated 'red tape' policies with efficient solutions.
-
Create an advisory council. I want to hear from the folks with innovative ideas so that, together, we can fix our broken court system.
-
Make court information and data transparent and readily available to the public. Everyone should know how their tax dollars are being used.

Dani Eicher, Veteran and Advocate, NV
"This incredible soul has my vote because I know her decisions will be based on precedent, critical thinking, and compassion."
Irene Parthum, Former Prosecutor, WI
"When she was a public defender, I found her to be smart, ethical, and dedicated to the law and her indigent clients. As a prosecutor, I knew she was someone who did not play games and kept her word. She was a devoted public servant and I am confident she would serve Nevada as a judge with distinction."
Brionne Dade, Performer, NV
"Your interview touched me. I have never voted before, but I will now because of what you said.”
